Shooting that cupid's arrow forever & always!
Valentines Day - damn do we actually need a day to remind us that we're single 😢 & not only that, but a parent also - sheeesh stab me in the heart!! 💔
But when you think about the essence of Valentine's Day, it’s a day dedicated to celebrating love, nurturing connections, and expressing affection towards loved ones. It serves as a reminder to cherish & appreciate the relationships that bring joy and happiness into our lives.
So as a huge promoter of self-love, self-care & a lover for any excuse to bring out my own inner fabulousness; this year I'm gonna embrace Valentine's Day & redirect Cupid's arrow to me & my bubs... ummm though it may be a bit awkward as he's 21 & I think it may be kinda uncool & weird for him!! 😆
But when you're a single parent, & days like Valentine’s comes around, we can & still should celebrate this day. I remember the first time I saw Elijah, like most parents you experience that amazing sensation & emotion of unconditional love.
So, I reckon all parents should use Valentines Day as what it's meant for - showing our families how much we love them. Not to expose what we don't have, but the opportunity to celebrate what we do have. This day of love is about you and your family – albeit with your partner & kids or just your kids, it's about appreciating & experiencing love. Teaching our children that its natural to show & celebrate love openly & freely...What a precious life lesson for them, especially in this day & age.
As a single parent myself, I know it's hard, especially if you're alone with a newborn, and you don't have the same interactions as with an older child. However, if this is the case, turn everything on the flipside - why don't you create them a You're My Valentine book or video, so you can share it with them when they're older. This can be filled with beautiful moments & little love notes just for them!
With older kids, why not treat yourselves to your own Valentine's dinner date. Whether it's home or away, just make it fun, & if you're really a whizz in the kitchen, whip up a small batch of heart shaped treats. & along the same lines of Thanksgiving, share a thought, of love & appreciate for each other.
When you show love, various positive emotional chemicals can be released in your body, making you feel complete happiness, positive well-being, & true connection. With this in mind, knowing it's not just a celebration for the people who are coupling, I reckon Valentine’s Day is looking like a definite keeper on my calendar.
& yinno, when your kids are finally asleep, do take a moment for yourself & self indulge! Valentine’s Day is for you too. We forget about ourselves, let's be honest - we are always the last priority on a huge list filled with jobs that are centred on our kids.
So, to all my single parent troops out there, have a moment, embrace Valentine's Day & raise a glass to cheers yourself on your accomplishments - you're doing a great job! 🥂
Believe me when I say, I'm gonna be sending myself flowers & chocolates. 🍫💐
To me, love from me! 🤣
Happy Valentines Day!
